Wildflower Workshop with Wilson!

Due to several requests, we have changed the date of this year’s Wildflower Workshop to April 23rd-April 25th.  This coincides with the end of the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage hosted by the National Park, as well as being the week before the Spring Townsend Festival, so it’s a great time to come to the Smokies for a variety of celebrations.  For more information on the Wildflower Pilgrimage week, visit www.springwildflowerpilgrimage.org.

Did you know that the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is also known as the “wildflower national park”?  That’s right, over 1600 types of flowering plants can be found in the Park, more than any other National Park.  Wilson Reynolds, the owner of Tremont Outdoor Resort, happens to be a professional nature photographer, instructor, all-round outdoor enthusiast and some might say wildflower expert.  So, you can imagine that nothing would make him happier than to wrap all those things together and get to share them with you at the same time!  Last year, Wilson taught this as a one day workshop, but we had so much fun that he has expanded it this year to start on Friday night and conclude on Sunday afternoon.  This workshop is limited to 20 participants, so be sure to register before all the spots fill up!  If you would like to look back on the summary of our excursion last year, you can read all about it here.

We promised you details and here they are….

Friday, April 23rd – 7pm-9:30pm

We will meet in the Rec Hall at Tremont Outdoor Resort for a meet and greet to get to know everyone will we be spending the next 2 days with.  This is the time we’ll get to know your skill level, what type of equipment you will be using, and what wildflowers most interest you (if you have some favorites).  Of course refreshments will be provided!

Saturday, April 24th

8:00am-9:30am – For anyone interested, we will be meeting for breakfast at a local restaurant before heading off to our first wildflower excursion.

10am-2pm – Wildflowers down low

2pm-3:30pm – lunch on your own (we will be close enough to go back into town for lunch or you are welcome to pack your own for a picnic.)

4pm-6pm – Silk & Water with Wildflowers

6pm-9:30pm – Image evaluation with BBQ dinner.  We’ll meet back in the Rec Hall at Tremont to review your images, eat a yummy dinner, and discuss the plan for the next day.

Sunday, April 25th

10am-2pm – Secret Spots for Ladyslippers and/or the Chimneys Nature Trail

Workshop Cost

If you are staying at Tremont Outdoor Resort on Friday, April 23rd and Saturday, April 24th, the cost for the workshop will be $25 per person.  If you are staying somewhere other than Tremont Outdoor Resort, the cost for the workshop is $125 per person.  Snacks for evaluations and the meet and greet are provided as well as dinner on Saturday evening.  All other meals are on your own.  Transportation into the National Park for the workshop sessions is also on your own, but we do recommend carpooling which can be arranged at the meet and greet.  It not only saves gas, but it’s much more fun!

Accommodations at Tremont Outdoor Resort

If you choose to stay at Tremont Outdoor Resort while attending the Wildflower Workshop, we have several different types of accommodations.  You may choose from an RV site, a tent site, or one of our 4 different types of cabins.  For descriptions of cabins, please visit our website at www.tremontcamp.com.  For this particular workshop, we are discounting our Standard and Premier cabins for participants.  Premier cabins will be $180 for two nights with an extra night at $90 if you would like to stay.  Standard cabins will be $140 for two nights with an extra night at $70.  Discounted rates for other types of accommodations will also be given to workshop participants, just ask for these when you call for reservations. For anyone participating in the workshop and staying Friday and Saturday nights checking out on Sunday, checkout time will be extended to 7pm on Sunday with our compliments due to the finishing time of the workshop.  To make your reservation, please call 865-448-6363 and be sure to tell them if you are participating in the workshop.

Equipment to Bring

Digital SLR cameras are recommended, but not required.  If you have any of the following equipment, please bring it with you – a tripod, a macro lens, a 24-70mm lens, a 70-200mm lens, and a monopod.  Again, this equipment is not required, but is recommended if you have it.  Also bring your laptop along if you have one.  Be sure to wear comfortable, yet sturdy shoes (preferably hiking boots) as we have a tendency to wander off the beaten path from time to time :).

How to Register
