Tremont’s 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Dinner!

Posted in Holidays with tags , , on November 5, 2010 by tremontoutdoorresort

This is probably my favorite picture from the day...Elijah talked SOMEBODY into letting him have his cupcake BEFORE he ate dinner. As you can probably guess, he REALLY enjoyed it!!

Our first attempt at a group Thanksgiving Dinner was so much fun that we are definitely doing it again this year!  If you were able to join us last year, we hope you will be able to return this year.  If you missed our feast and fun last year, we hope you can join us this year.

Spending the Thanksgiving holiday with your family in the glorious Great Smoky Mountains is a fantastic idea and what better place to stay than Tremont Outdoor Resort?  Make your reservations today and let one of our reservation staff know if you and your family would like to join us for our Thanksgiving Dinner.  Tremont will be providing the turkey (deep-fried!), bread, drinks, heat, and great company.  We just ask each participating family to bring a side dish to share.

If you have already made reservations to stay with us for Thanksgiving, please call 865-448-6363 or email info@tremontcamp.com to let us know if you would like to join us for dinner, how many in your family will be coming, and if you have any children under 10.  If you have not already made reservations, be sure to call the above listed number soon!

We can’t wait to see you all and to rejoice in our many blessings!

Thanksgiving Day at Tremont…

Posted in Holidays with tags , , , , on December 4, 2009 by tremontoutdoorresort

This was the first year for us to host Thanksgiving Dinner at Tremont Outdoor Resort.  The first year is kind of like foraging into the unknown, you plan for everything that you can, but some things you just have to let unfold and learn from them for next time.

Well, our first Thanksgiving Dinner seems to have been a hit!  There were about 85 people who gathered together to celebrate, give thanks, and of course, eat some really good food.  Let me tell you, the folks who camp at Tremont can cook!  While we provided the deep fried turkey, rolls, and drinks, everybody else provided the side dishes and desserts.  It was neat to experience recipes from different parts of the country.  I know the stuffing from Louisiana with shimp and andouille sausage was a hit along with many other dishes.  In fact, we were so impressed with the culinary skills of our guests, that we are going to solicit their recipes, if they are willing to share them, to compile in a Tremont cookbook.

Although we learned some things through trial that we can do differently to make things go even smoother in the future, we were thrilled with how the day turned out!  It was so nice to gather everyone together to celebrate.  We were blessed with good weather early in the day and had just the right amount of heat to keep folks comfortable.

Here are a few snapshots from the day…

Actually the day before Thanksgiving...Wilson, Jesse, and Bill assembling a turkey fryer. Notice that one of them is actually reading the directions!

The turkey fryers at work. Between them, they cooked 8 turkeys!

Karla (left) and Amy (right), two of the many people who helped us pull this event together!

Bringing in the delicious food!

The buffet table starts to fill up...

Dessert!!

After the blessing (given by my good friend, Byron), folks start moving through the buffet line.

Gary carved at least 6 out of 8 turkeys!

Jesse is happy that all of the turkeys are cooked!

This is probably my favorite picture from the day...Elijah talked SOMEBODY into letting him have his cupcake BEFORE he ate dinner. As you can probably guess, he REALLY enjoyed it!!

Elijah's older brother thought the dessert before dinner concept was a good one.

Folks gathered together in the Pavilion

We hope that everyone had a wonderful time!  If you weren’t there, we hope that you will join us next year at Thanksgiving!  We were so blessed to be able to celebrate with all of  you.

Hope to see you all soon!

Tremont’s First Thanksgiving Dinner!

Posted in Holidays, Uncategorized with tags on November 18, 2009 by tremontoutdoorresort

We have been blessed this year to enlarge our pavilion, so we thought that Thanksgiving would be a wonderful time to really put it to the test!  Traditionally, quite a few people camp with us at Tremont over the Thanksgiving holiday, so we thought, “Why not have one big Thanksgiving Dinner for everyone staying at Tremont on Thanksgiving Day?”.  So, that’s what we’re doing!

Here are the details….

Dinner will be at 2pm in Tremont’s newly enlarged Outdoor Pavilion (but don’t worry, we have heat!).  Tremont will be providing the turkey (deep fried!), the drinks, all the utensils, and great company.  We just ask that each family participating bring a side dish to share.

We are so excited about sharing Thanksgiving with all of you!  So, if you haven’t yet made plans for Thanksgiving, this would be a great time to go camping…we have cabins, tents, and RV sites, so there is a little something for everyone!

If you are already planning on being at Tremont for Thanksgiving but haven’t let us know whether or not you are joining us for dinner, please email info@tremontcamp.com or call 865-448-6363 to let us know you are attending and how many children and adults are in your party.  We just want to make sure we plan properly and have enough turkey!

We are truly thankful to all of you who come to Tremont and make it possible to do what we love!  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Labor Day Weekend

Posted in Holidays, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on September 10, 2009 by tremontoutdoorresort

Well, the official “end of summer” has come and gone.  Labor Day weekend seems to be the last chance to get away before school starts back and the Fall is upon us.  We had lots of people make the most of their opportunity this past weekend as Tremont was brimming full!  Not a campsite to be had!  It was so nice to walk through the campground and be able to almost taste the marshmallows that you could smell roasting.  Awning lights twinkling all colors in the night and the sound of someone playing a guitar in the C section while children rode their bikes throughout the park.

On Saturday night, Wilson gave a narrated slideshow presentation on Wildlife in America in the outdoor pavilion and talked about all the animals that he has been blessed to have the opportunity to see and photograph.  We really enjoyed having the chance to talk to many of the wonderful folks that were staying with us.  This even led to a photography adventure in the National Park with a sweet couple from Michigan later in the week where we finally got some really nice shots of the bears in Cades Cove.

Of course, a wonderful weekend was made even sweeter by the fact that the University of Tennessee Volunteers won big over Western Kentucky in their first game under their new head coach.  Go Big Orange!  We were able to broadcast the game on the big screen in the pavilion for anyone who was interested in watching and hope to be able to continue to provide this service in the future, so stay tuned for tailgate updates.  However, many people enjoyed watching the UT game and others in the comfort of the set up at their own site as well.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the weekend.  These are just a few though, so if you would like to see more, please visit our facebook page by clicking here and check out our photo albums!  While you’re there, become a fan on our facebook page.  We would love for you to write on our wall and tell us about your experiences.  Hey, you can even load some of your own photos if you would like to share them :).

Independence Day Celebration begins…

Posted in Holidays with tags , , , , on July 2, 2009 by tremontoutdoorresort

tubingBike tires racing over gravel, tubes splashing in the river, twinkle lights dangling from camper awnings, chains creaking on the swingset, smoke rising from campfires, the aroma of hot dogs and marshmallows roasting, a splash bomb being tossed across the pool, a hammock swinging in the breeze on the riverside, tent screens covering picnic tables, rockers swaying back and forth on cabin porches, and the laughter and conversations of family and friends floating on the air.  These are sights, sounds, and smells that can all be found at Tremont right now.  I just got back from a walk around the campground and these were the images that came back into the office with me.  Sometimes you just have to get out and walk around to take it all in and remember the reasons that people love to come here.

swinging into the riverWe’re celebrating our freedom as a nation this weekend, something we don’t and shouldn’t take lightly.  It’s great to see people get out and get away from the pressures of what has become everyday life.  To be able to
spend even a few days in the mountains, by the river, laughing and playing with your family, enjoying some of the simple pleasures in life and the beauty that God has given us in the great out of doors, those are memories worth making.  Most anyone you talk to who grew up camping with their family looks back fondly on those days and the experiences they had.  We’re glad that people are here continuing those traditions and ways of life.  Hey, and you don’t even have to go too far from home!

We hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July holiday where ever you may be!

God bless the men and women in our troops who continue to make this freedom we enjoy and celebrate possible.
