Three Good Reasons to Visit Townsend, TN This Weekend!

Posted in Festivals, Wildflowers with tags , , on May 2, 2013 by tremontoutdoorresort

Not that you necessarily need special reasons or occasions to head to Townsend, Tennessee as it is beautiful and peaceful all of the time, but just in case you need a little extra incentive…

1.  This weekend is the Spring Festival and Old Timers Day at the Visitor Center in Townsend.

The 2013 Townsend Spring Festival and Old Timers Day is set for May 3-4.

Join us for our springtime celebration of bluegrass music (concerts and jam sessions), clogging, arts and crafts, BBQ, Appalachian skills demonstrations, storytelling, wildflower walks, and the beauty of the Smokies in the springtime.

2.  They started stocking trout in the Little River this morning!  They stock right from the bridge that leads into Tremont Outdoor Resort!  So grab your waders and your fishing tackle and head on down:)

3.  If you love wildflowers, you are not too late to see some gorgeous blooms in the Park.  I have it on good authority that there are pink and yellow ladyslippers in bloom among other things:)

The Trout are on their way…

It’s that time of year that many fishermen await – it’s trout stocking time in Tennessee!  That is really close to home for Tremont because the state of Tennessee stocks the Little River with trout, usually from the bridge going into Tremont Outdoor Resort.  So, we are up close and personal:)  That’s also a great spot to plunge in with your waders.

The trout stocking schedule shows that the first stocking for the Little River is to be the week of February 26th and then every other week after that until the week of June 17th.  In the past, they have usually stocked in the middle of the week around Wednesday, so we expect that to be the case this year as well, but if we discover that to be different, we’ll update you here.

Coupled with this good news is the unseasonably warm weather we have been having.  The high today is 50 degrees and later in the week we are supposed to get all the way up to 64 degrees!  Even though the weather will be nice and warm for late February and March, the water is still cold, so as a fisherman, you won’t have to worry about hooking any tubers that you would find floating down the river in the summer!  All that said, it is a PERFECT time to get away to the mountains and enjoy this beautiful spring weather we are having a little bit early.

So, give Judi a call at 865-448-6363 to make your reservations and come join us in one of the most beautiful places on Earth!  Can’t you just smell the campfire now?

Trout Fishing Time in Tennessee

Springtime is right around the corner….really, it is.  We could not be more ready for it to get here!  One of the signs of the coming of Spring here at Tremont is the beginning of the trout stocking season.  The TWRA does not stock the streams inside the National Park, but they do stock the portion of the Little River that runs through Townsend.  Since Tremont is right at the boundary of the National Park, TWRA stocks trout every two weeks during the season right from our very own bridge!

We dug this one out of the archives just for fun...an old pic of Wilson in action.

The Little River is ranked as one of the top trout streams in Tennessee.  TWRA began stocking this year the week of February 28th and will stock every 2 weeks through the week of June 20th.  They will begin stocking again in the fall the week of October 3rd.  For more information on the TWRA stocking schedule, you can click here.

The best time to fish this stream is early in the season.  The temperature of the water has not risen to temperatures non-conducive to the trout and there are no tubers floating through your lines.  Townsend is also home to Little River Outfitters – Fly Shop and Fishing School, owned and operated by Byron Begley.  They can help with almost any fishing needs you have from product to information.  Their staff is extremely knowledgeable, all being anglers themselves and they also have a daily fishing report published on their website.  Byron is also chairman of Troutfest this year which will be May 14th through May 16th.  For more information on Troutfest 2010, click here.

So, bring your rod and come to Tremont for some relaxation and great access to trout fishing.  We look forward to seeing you!
